Overview
We’re working with a well-established Marine R&D/ Manufacturing company in Hampshire who are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join the team. We’re looking for someone demonstrable electrical design experience and strong fault-finding skills, ideally from a Marine background.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and design electrical circuits (AC/DC), creating detailed schematics, control panel and technical drawings
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant marine electrical standards
- Apply a good understanding of control system principles
- Conduct fault-finding and implement logical solutions to resolve issues
- Commission and maintain electric motors, switching circuits and motor controllers
- Perform on-site commissioning and fault-finding to ensure systems meet client specifications
- Provide technical support and training to clients and end-users
- Prepare comprehensive documentation, including user manuals and maintenance guides
- Maintain project records and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Work closely with other engineers, project managers and clients to ensure successful project delivery
- Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to provide updates and resolve issues
Experience & Qualifications
- Degree or Master’s in Electrical Engineering (or related field)
- Minimum 3 years in a similar role within the marine electronics industry
- Electrical circuit design – AC/DC
- Can create and interpret schematics, technical drawings, control panel and circuit diagrams
- In-depth knowledge of marine electrical standards
- Strong fault-finding – logical, methodical approach
- Experience with electric motors, switching circuits, and motor controllers
- EPLAN and AutoCAD for design/documentation
- Good understanding of control system principles
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and ability to self-manage workload
- Willing to travel for on-site commissioning
- Marine CANbus systems – NMEA2000 and ruggedised sensors (Desirable)
- Appreciation of PLC programming, particularly Siemens (Desirable)
