Overview
Join a leading defence engineering organisation developing complex, safety-critical systems that support UK and international defence programmes. As a Product Safety Engineer, you’ll ensure products are designed, developed and supported in line with stringent safety standards and regulatory requirements. Working within multidisciplinary teams, you’ll influence design decisions, manage safety activities and help deliver robust, compliant engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and maintain Product Safety Management Plans and Safety Cases
- Conduct hazard identification, risk assessments and safety analyses
- Facilitate HAZID, HAZOP and FMEA/FMECA workshops
- Ensure compliance with relevant defence and industry safety standards
- Support design reviews, verification and validation activities
- Liaise with engineering, project and customer stakeholders on safety matters
- Prepare technical safety documentation for internal and customer approval
- Contribute to continuous improvement of safety processes and methodologies
Experience & Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, Safety Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience in product or system safety within a regulated engineering environment
- Knowledge of safety standards such as Def Stan 00-056, IEC 61508 or equivalent
- Experience producing Safety Cases and safety documentation
- Understanding of hazard analysis techniques including FMEA and Fault Tree Analysis
- Strong technical report writing and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance
