​We are currently looking for a Combustion Engineer to work for a pioneering, clean technology engineering and manufacturing company in Leamington Spa.

Working as part of the Combustion engineering team you will be responsible for delivering design solutions, technology development, and verification tests carried out within the combustion & fuel system test facility.

The role is integral to the development of future combustion systems, including Hydrogen based solutions, and to lead prototype test activities in support of technology development project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • To operate in an engineering and mechanical test environment supporting test rig operations including the following:

    • Combustion

    • Heat Exchangers

    • Fuel Delivery

    • Air Delivery

    • Instrumentation – flowmeters, pressure gauges, thermocouple including the installation and calibration.

    • Automation

    • Risk Assessments and HSE

  • Planning of tests and ownership of the test readiness process

  • Responsible for technology development activities and develop and execute prototype tests to advance combustion and fuel system technologies

  • Requirements capture and appropriate cascade and input to programme delivery scorecards

  • Fault diagnosis, root cause analysis, DFMEA and risk management.

  • Recording, analysis and reporting of test data

  • Attention to detail in setting test conditions and adhering to tolerances

  • Supervise and run Combustion test rigs.

  • Use of DEWESoft for data capture and hardware control.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree required or ability to demonstrate sufficient equivalent knowledge and experience.

  • Combustion experience – preferably gas turbine related although other industries will be considered. Strong knowledge of Combustion fundamentals, fuel injection, aerodynamics and thermodynamics.

  • Hydrogen Combustion experience is an advantage.

  • Mechanical test experience desired including understanding of instrumentation, pneumatics and fluid systems.

  • CAD knowledge and ability to interrogate and produce models and sketches is an advantage.

  • Aerothermal tools – working knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics / 1D flow network modelling and simulation is an advantage.

  • Comfortable presenting work to various stakeholders across all levels.

  • Project management – ability to deliver technical projects on time and to budget

  • Valid driving license and willingness to work offsite if required at an alternative test facility.

Remuneration

This is a permanent position with a guide starting salary of £40,000 – 50,000pa although considerations may be made should candidates possess particularly desirable qualities.
