​We are currently seeking a Lead Electrical Design Engineer to work for a cutting-edge clean technology company in South London.

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate to have a real impact on an organisation that is pioneering new scientific and engineering concepts.

Job Profile

You will have the responsibility for the execution of work packages and tasks within the company’s main projects relating to the design, development, prototyping and testing of electrical distribution systems for our products and technology. This will require a mix of practical and analytical skills and may include working off-site and with customers.

Your primary responsibility will be to design electrical system of high and low voltage circuits, prototypes and circuit boards in ECAD environment (i.e. Zuken E3, Electra).

You will be expected to lead the design, development, project management, commercial, prototype and production manufacturing teams, technical partners and suppliers to ensure the designs meet the requirements for timing, performance, manufacturability and cost.

You will also support R&D activities and the development of tools and identify process/method gaps for continuous improvement of the company’s electrical systems.


Person Specification

It is anticipated that you will be working at Principal / Technical Specialist / Senior Engineer level with minimum 8 years’ experience in the electrical distribution system design, Automotive, Engine Systems, Machines, Electromechanical Systems Industry.


Minimum Qualifications: -

Graduate / Post Graduate Degree in Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics Engineering

Essential Skills & Competencies Required: -

  • Expert in Electrical Design to meet the current/voltage requirements for electrical components, sensors, actuators for accurate design implementation in the system.

  • Experience in designing electrical schematics and technical drawings to be used by technicians (stick diagrams, wiring lists, bill of materials).

  • Proficiency in Control Systems Design, ability to simulate electrical systems in Matlab/Simulink, Spice or similar. Practical knowledge of ECAD (Electra E8/E9 or Zuken E3) Experience with CAN bus system design, development and testing.

  • Requirement management and definition: Experience in capturing system requirements specification and analysis for electrical systems (Software, Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical integrated system).

  • Hands-on experience with Analog/Digital circuits design using OrCAD, Eagle, KiCAD or similar.

  • Detailed knowledge of DC-DC Converters, Electric Drive Units, DC Motors, Pumps, Solar Panel, electronic components Experience of design & Programming of PLCs/ Control Modules (MRS Control Modules)

  • Working knowledge of Communication interfaces e.g RS232, USB, 420mA Current loop implementation Design, development, prototyping and testing of electrical distribution systems Previous Experience of EMC & ATP Testing Requirements.

  • Experience of full product life-cycle activities and ability to achieve cost, weight and technical targets within timescales Experience of Engineering Quality toolsets and processes - FMEA, Interface Analysis, Boundary Diagrams, etc.

  • Electrical system projects at a practical level from specification/requirements through to development and testing of prototype systems A solid understanding of whole system/product development cycle is essential as well as a sound knowledge of electrical systems delivery requirements, DFMEA, EDS design tool development and integration, engineering release activities, change management processes and wiring harness manufacturing.

  • Hands on experience in using the tools for building prototype wiring harnesses.

  • Ability to use measuring equipment (oscilloscope, functions generator, other Electrical Lab Equipment).

  • Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients.

  • Quick learner with good time management skills and capable of leading a team of technicians, guiding them through the building and debugging procedure.

  • Chartered or working towards chartered status desirable.

  • A background in niche, low volume or motorsport engineering with a broad understanding of other vehicle systems.

  • High level of attention to detail and a focus on safety.

  • You need to be practical, smart, detail-orientated and be able to spot problems before they happen.

  • A hands-on approach. Comfortable in the design office as well as in the workshop.
