Job Summary
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, working closely with the Lead Electrical Systems Engineer, you will have technical leadership responsibility for Embedded Control Systems development for the company’s products. You will have the responsibility to design and develop control systems for the complex and technically advanced company systems, incorporating hardware and software systems. You will have responsibility for execution of work packages and tasks within the company’s main projects, relating to the design, development, prototyping and testing of our products and technology. This will require a mix of practical, technical & analytical skills and may include working off-site and with customers.
Defining Controls & Electrical specifications based on high level requirements
Leading the development of ECU Control Strategy and Electronic systems & subsystems
Planning and undertaking test and development exercises and cycles
Managing own and Control team members’ day to day activities and reporting progress
Supplier interface and management
Depending on experience level, providing technical leadership to less experienced engineers
Person Specification
It is anticipated that you will be working at a Senior Engineer / Specialist level in the Embedded Control Systems Design & Integration in the Automotive / Engine Systems / Electronics / Mechatronics / Electromechanical Systems Industry.
Educational Qualifications Required:
Degree in Electronics / Mechatronics / Control systems with emphasis on Embedded systems.
General Experience:
A minimum of 6 years direct working experience in the Embedded Control Systems: -
Essential Experience:
Hands on Experience in ECU Embedded Controls Design & Integration, Mechatronics/Electronics system design and integration via CAN
Expert level skills in MATLAB, Simulink & State flow Controller Architecture & Algorithm design from System Requirements, Defining Controller layout / strategy implementation with Embedded Coder, Integration with Busses, Component selection, implementation, debugging offline/Online, Model based Code/Strategy Verification & Validation, Simulation with SIL, MIL & HIL on test cells
Design & Calibration of Feedback/PID, Feedforward, Open loop strategy integration based on Systems / Electrical architecture
Proficient in C/C++ Programming for 32-bit Microprocessors, RTOS, Thorough understanding with demonstrable experience of Micro Controllers/ Microprocessors Architecture, ECU boards, Analog/Digital/Angular I/O Controls, Power Electronics to drive/optimise Actuators, DC Motor Controls, PWM DC Control, implementation on Major projects from concept to Final product Integration
Multiple Controller Communications & control over CAN (ECU & PLC modules, Master/Slave Communication), Sensors (Transducers/Thermistors) Calibration, Actuators, Analog/Digital implementation in ECU Strategy via Simulink and embedded Coder requirements
Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients
Excellent problem solver, capable of thinking “outside the box”
Quick learner with good time management skills
Desirable Experience:
Motohawk ECU Strategy development using Simulink/Proprietary Libraries/blocks, practical integration using RTW/Auto Code generation from concept to final validated product, Simulation of Strategy, Offline Calibrations etc
Experienced/Proficient Knowledge of CAN based DAQ modules / Telematic modules
Experience of system tuning/plant modelling methods based on Classical Control Theory, MIMO, adaptive control, stability analysis, tracking algorithm
Model based Development Methods for System Transfer Function, Physical/Statistical Model Development, Test case creation and execution: Translate Hardware and Software requirements into a test specification and actions.
Diagnostic strategy Design & Development, Integration with Master Control Strategy, DFMEA requirements integration with Diagnostics & Control Strategy (Essential)
Controller Network Interface experience: CAN CCP (Essential)
Proficiency with Analog and Digital Design of Electronic/Mechatronic Devices
Simulink Co Simulation with other software, e.g. GT Suite (Preferred but not essential)
HMI Development in C++/Python and Integration with ECU Master Strategy (Preferred but not essential)
Coding standard, Best practice, Experience with the model version control and software version control (Git)
Chartered or working towards chartered status desirable
