We are currently recruiting an Mechanical Design Engineer to work for a highly technical engineering organisation in Basingstoke. The ideal candidates for this role will come from an Aerospace, Space, Automotive or Satcom background, although other technical engineering disciplines will also be considered.


Reporting to the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing robust components and assemblies, integral to the design of the finished product.

 

Key Duties

  • Generating and agreeing product concept designs and specifications through to finalised product designs.

  • Produce sound mechanical designs and documentation sufficient to enable full manufacturing documentation to be produced.

  • Designing composite mouldings, castings and other mechanical piece parts and systems to meet the product requirements in the most cost-effective way.

  • Specifying COTS items, utilising standard parts and perform design reviews.

  • Checking engineering drawings produced by engineering team.

  • Review and action development and production change notes as required.

  • Populate the design database and archive.

 

Experience

  • Mechanical Engineering qualifications to HND or degree level or time served industry experience.

  • A broad range of experience working as a mechanical design engineer.

  • Strong working knowledge of Creo and PDM systems.

  • Experience with DDM and Visio desirable.

  • Experience designing machined, cast, pressed, fabricated and composite components.

  • Experience performing GD&T analysis and working with tight tolerances for dynamic assemblies.

  • Ability to generate concise unambiguous drawings and reports.

  • An understanding of electrical and / or software engineering preferred.

  • Experience with analysis tools such as FEA is not essential but would be advantageous.
