We are currently recruiting a Technical Lead Engineer to work for a specialist engineering organisation in Basingstoke. The ideal candidates for this role will come from an Aerospace, Space, Automotive or Satcom background, although other technical engineering disciplines will also be considered.

 

The Technical Lead Engineer will use their organisation / communication skills to become the subject matter expert for their field. The role will involve mentoring a small design team, developing and documenting company standards and taking responsibility for the robust design and documentation of components and assemblies.

 

Key Duties

  • Developing the product roadmap for their specialism and contributing to standardisation and design methodology.

  • Promoting good practice and a culture of right first time, design for repeatable manufacture.

  • Generating and agreeing product concepts and specifications through to finalised product designs.

  • Review and action development and production change notes as required with consideration of business impact and actively participate in 8D investigations.

  • Designing composite mouldings, castings and other mechanical piece parts to meet the product requirements in the most cost-effective way.

  • Specifying COTS items, utilising standard parts and performing DFMEA’s and design reviews.

  • Checking engineering calculations, designs and drawings produced by engineering team.

  • Mentoring and developing team members through 1-2-1’s and annual reviews to develop technical knowledge within the team in own subject matter.

  • Liaising with production, procurement and the electrical, electronic, RF and software engineering departments.

 

Experience

  • Qualified Mechanical Engineer to degree level or above or time served equivalent industry experience.

  • Hold demonstrable experience leading and mentoring a team of design engineers.

  • Driven to standardise parts for wider use and reduced redesign while documenting best practices.

  • Experienced in managing full product life cycle.

  • Passionate, hands-on engineer comfortable with efficiently prioritising own workload with leadership duties.

  • Maintain a broad range of varied and relevant experience working as a mechanical design engineer.
    A mature history of 3D parametric CAD and PDM systems.

  • Robust understanding of designing machined, cast, pressed, fabricated and composite components.

  • Practiced in performing GD&T analysis and working with tight tolerances for dynamic assemblies.
